“The Nicene Creed states that Jesus is “consubstantial with the Father.” This means that Jesus is one in substance with the Father, having full possession of the one divine nature and thus equal to the Father.
But some quasi-Christian sects, such as Jehovah Witnesses, challenge this belief with a variety of bible passages.
One such passage is John 14:28. Jesus says, “The Father is greater than I.” How can Jesus be equal to the Father, so it’s argued, when he explicitly says the Father is greater?
One answer is that Jesus attributes this lesser status to himself insofar as he is man, not God. St. Thomas Aquinas explains,
Thus when he says, the Father is greater than I, he does not mean I, as Son of God, but as Son of man, for in this way he is not only inferior to the Father and the Holy Spirit, but even to the angels: “We see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels” (Heb. 2:9). Again, in some things he was subject to human beings, as his parents (Luke 2:51). Consequently, he is inferior to the Father because of his human nature, but equal because of his divine nature (Commentary on the Gospel of John 14.8).”

THE PASCHAL MYSTERY
Hoy la Iglesia celebra la Solemnidad de la Epifanía del Señor
Fue precisamente Nuestra Señora quien, a través del Mensaje de Fátima, anunció que vendría a pedir la Comunión reparadora de los primeros sábados de mes, por ser el sábado el día en que tradicionalmente se honraba a la Santísima Virgen desde siglos atrás. Hubo que esperar al día 10 de diciembre de 1925, para que se cumpliera aquel anuncio, teniendo ello lugar en el monasterio de Santa Dorotea, en Tuy (Pontevedra), donde se encontraba Sor Lucía, quien junto a sus primos Francisco y Jacinta, había tenido la dicha de ser testigo de las visiones marianas en Fátima. Fue así como la Santísima Virgen le pidió la institución de la devoción de los cinco Primeros Sábados de mes como modo de reparar las ofensas contra su Inmaculado Corazón.
¿En que consiste esta devoción?
Atendiendo el pedido de Nuestra Señora, sus fieles devotos podemos consolarla cumpliendo durante cinco primeros sábados de mes consecutivos los siguientes requisitos:
Confesión.
Asistir a la Santa Misa, recibiendo la Sagrada Comunión con intención de reparar las ofensas contra el Inmaculado Corazón de María.
Rezo del Santo Rosario.
Meditar al menos uno de los Misterios del Santo Rosario durante quince minutos.
¿Por qué cinco sábados?
Ello obedece a los cinco tipos de blasfemias con las que se ofende a Nuestra Señora, y que Ella misma reveló a Sor Lucía:
Blasfemias contra su Inmaculado Corazón.
Blasfemias contra su virginidad.
Blasfemias contra Ella en cuanto Madre de Dios y Madre de toda la humanidad.
Blasfemias de aquellos que públicamente infunden en los niños la indiferencia, el desprecio e incluso el odio a la Santísima Virgen.
Blasfemias de quienes ultrajan sus sagradas imágenes.
La Comunión Reparadora de los Primeros Sábados de mes
Aparición de Nuestro Señor y de la Santísima Virgen a Sor Lucia en Pontevedra
1. – ¿Cuándo? El 10 de diciembre de 1925. – ¿Cómo? Por una aparición de Nuestro Señor y de la Santísima Virgen que me mostró su Inmaculado Corazón cercado de espinas y pidiendo reparación. – ¿Dónde? En Pontevedra (Pasaje Isabel II). La primera aparición (tuvo lugar) en mi cuarto, la segunda cerca del portal del jardín donde estaba trabajando.
2. ¿Las condiciones requeridas? Durante cinco meses, el primer sábado, recibir la Santa Comunión, rezar el rosario, hacer compañía quince minutos a Nuestra Señora meditando los misterios del rosario, y confesarse con la misma intención. La confesión puede hacerse otro día, siempre que uno esté en estado de gracia al recibir la Santa Comunión.
3. Beneficios o promesas. «A las almas que busquen desagraviarme de esta manera (dijo Nuestra Señora), les prometo asistirlas a la hora de la muerte con todas las gracias necesarias para su salvación.”
4. ¿Por qué cinco sábados y no nueve, o siete en honor de los dolores de Nuestra Señora? “Encontrándome en la capilla con Nuestro Señor cierto momento de la noche del 29 al 30 del mes de mayo de 1930, y hablando a Nuestro Señor de las preguntas cuatro y cinco, me sentí de repente poseída íntimamente por la divina presencia y, si no me equivoco, esto es lo que me fue revelado:
«Hija mía, el motivo es simple. Hay cinco especies de ofensas y blasfemias proferidas contra el Inmaculado Corazón de María: – las blasfemias contra la Inmaculada Concepción. – las blasfemias contra su virginidad. – las blasfemias contra su maternidad divina, negando al mismo tiempo reconocerla como Madre de los hombres. – las blasfemias de aquellos que buscan públicamente sembrar en el corazón de los niños la indiferencia o el desprecio, o incluso el odio respecto a esta Madre Inmaculada. – las ofensas de aquellos que la ultrajan directamente en sus santas imágenes.
Este es, hija mía, el motivo por el cual el Inmaculado Corazón de María me ha inspirado a pedir esta pequeña reparación, y, en consideración de la misma, a conmover Mi misericordia para perdonar a las almas que tuvieron la desgracia de ofenderla. En cuanto a ti, busca sin cesar, por tus oraciones y tus sacrificios, conmover Mi misericordia respecto a esas pobres almas».
5. ¿Aquellos que no pudieran cumplir estas condiciones el sábado, pueden satisfacerlas el domingo? «La práctica de esta devoción será igualmente aceptada el domingo siguiente al primer sábado, cuando mis sacerdotes, por justos motivos, lo permitan a las almas».

Hoy hace cien años, el 11 de diciembre de 1925, el Papa Pío IX publicó la encíclica Quas Primas. La ocasión para ello fue la creación de la fiesta de Cristo Rey (actualmente y desde las reformas litúrgicas posteriores al Concilio Vaticano II, solemnidad de Jesucristo, Rey del Universo). En origen, la fiesta se celebraba el último domingo de octubre, pero en la actualidad corresponde al último domingo del tiempo ordinario, es decir, el anterior al comienzo del Adviento.

El 8 de diciembre es el día de la Inmaculada Concepción de María. Ese día al mediodía podemos practicar la Hora de la Gracia, yendo a una Iglesia o en nuestra casa o lugar de trabajo, y pidiendo todo lo que necesitamos para nosotros y para nuestros hermanos. Se puede rezar el Rosario, el Vía Crucis, cualquier otra oración o simplemente hablar con Dios y la Virgen como hablamos con nuestros amigos más queridos y pedirles las gracias que tanto necesitamos. ¡Difundamos la Hora de Gracia!
*LA HISTORIA:* (breve)
8 DE DICIEMBRE DE 1947
Pierina -la vidente de las apariciones de Rosa Mística- contempló a la madre de Dios decir “¡Yo soy la Inmaculada Concepción!” y con gran majestad afirmó “Yo soy María de las Gracias, esto es, la llena de Gracia, Madre de mi Divino Hijo Jesucristo”.
Descendió suavemente por la escala y añadió “Por mi venida a Montichiari deseo ser invocada y venerada como Rosa Mística. QUIERO QUE AL MEDIODÍA DE CADA 8 DE DICIEMBRE (SOLEMNIDAD DE LA
INMACULADA) SE CELEBRE LA HORA DE LA GRACIA POR TODO EL MUNDO, MEDIANTE ESTA DEVOCIÓN SE ALCANZARÁN MUCHAS GRACIAS PARA EL ALMA Y EL CUERPO. Nuestro Señor, mi Divino Hijo Jesús, concederá copiosamente su misericordia, mientras los buenos recen por sus hermanos que permanecen en el pecado. Es preciso informar cuanto antes, al Supremo Pastor de la Iglesia Católica el Papa Pío XII mi deseo de que esta hora de gracia sea conocida y extendida por todo el mundo. Quien no puede ir a la iglesia que sea en su casa al mediodía y conseguirá mis gracias.”
Luego mostrándole su purísimo corazón
exclamó: “Mira este corazón que tanto ama a los hombres, mientras la mayoría de ellos lo colma de vituperios.”
Calló unos momentos y continuó: “Si todos, buenos y malos, se unen en la oración, obtendrán de este corazón misericordia y paz. Los buenos acaban de alcanzar por mi mediación la misericordia del Señor, que detuvo un gran castigo. Dentro de poco se conocerá la eficaz grandeza de esta hora de gracia”.
Notando Pierina que la resplandeciente Señora iba a alejarse le imploró fervorosamente: “¡Oh hermosa y amada Madre de Dios, yo le doy gracias!”.
Bendiga a todo el mundo especialmente al Santo Padre, a los sacerdotes, religiosos y a los pecadores. Ella contestó: “Tengo preparado una sobreabundancia de gracia para todos aquellos hijos que escuchan mi voz y toman a pecho mis deseos”. Con estas palabras se terminó la visión.
*CÓMO HACER LA HORA DE GRACIA*
Solicitud de nuestra santísima madre (Rosa Mística) para la Hora de Gracia
1. Día y hora de la Hora de Gracia: diciembre 8, Fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción, debe comenzar a las 12 del mediodía y continúa hasta la 1 de la tarde.
2. Durante esta hora las personas que hacen la Hora de Gracia, en la casa o en la iglesia, debe evitar toda clase de distracciones , no contestar el teléfono, no abrir la puerta, no hacer nada en absoluto, sino existir concentrados totalmente en la unión con Dios durante esta Hora especial de Gracia.
3. Comience la Hora de Gracia rezando tres veces el salmo 51 con los brazos abiertos.
4. El resto de la hora se puede pasar en comunicación en silencio con Dios, meditando sobre la pasión de Jesús, rezando el santo rosario, alabando a Dios en sus propias palabras o cánticos o rezando sus oraciones favoritas, cantando, meditando sobre otros salmos, etc.
Nuestra santa madre nos ha dado toda oportunidad de demostrar nuestro amor y confianza en ella y ayudarnos a hacer reparación por los graves pecados que ofenden a su amado hijo, nuestro señor Jesucristo.

ORACIÓN DE ABANDONO DEL PADRE DON DOLINDO NO QUIERO ANGUSTIARME, DIOS MÍO: ¡CONFÍO EN TI!
Jesús al alma: ¿Por qué os confundís, angustiándoos? Dejad a mí la gestión de vuestros asuntos y todo se calmará. En verdad os digo que cada acto de verdadero, ciego y completo abandono en mí, produce el efecto que deseáis y resuelve los problemas más espinosos. Abandonarse en mí no significa atormentarse, alterarse o desesperarse, dirigiéndome luego una oración llena de inquietud para que yo os siga a vosotros y cambie así la inquietud en la oración. Abandonarse significa cerrar plácidamente los ojos del alma, apartar el pensamiento de la tribulación y confiarse a mí para que sólo yo obre, diciéndome: “ocúpate Tú de ello”. La preocupación, la turbación, el querer pensar en las consecuencias de un hecho son cosas contrarias al abandono, contrarias por naturaleza. Es como la confusión que traen los niños que pretenden que la mamá piense en sus necesidades, pero quieren también resolverlas por sí solos y así obstaculizan, con sus ideas y sus fijaciones infantiles, su trabajo. Cerrad los ojos y dejaos llevar por la corriente de mi gracia; cerrad los ojos y no pensad más que en el momento presente, alejándoos del pensamiento del futuro como de una tentación; reposad en mi creyendo en mi bondad, y os juro por mi amor que, diciéndome con estas disposiciones: “ocúpate Tú de ello”, yo lo haré por entero, os consolaré, os libraré, os guiaré. Y cuando tenga que llevaros por un camino diferente de aquel que veis vosotros, yo os adiestraré, os llevaré en mis brazos, haré que os encontréis en la otra orilla, como niños dormidos en los brazos maternos. Lo que os turba y os hace un daño inmenso son vuestros razonamientos, vuestras preocupaciones, vuestros afanes, y el querer a toda costa ser vosotros quienes remediéis aquello que os aflige. ¡Cuántas cosas realizo cuando el alma, tanto en sus necesidades espirituales como en aquellas materiales, se vuelve a mí, me mira y diciéndome: “ocúpate Tú de ello”, cierra los ojos y reposa. Obtenéis pocas gracias cuando os atormentáis por producirlas, sin embargo tenéis muchísimas cuando la oración es un encomendarse plenamente a mí. En el dolor, vosotros oráis para que yo obre, pero para que obre como creéis que debo obrar… No os dirigís a mí, sino que queréis que yo me adapte a vuestras ideas; no sois enfermos que piden al médico que les cure, sino que le sugerís la cura. J’invoque aujourd’hui toutes ces forces contre tout pouvoir hostile et impitoyable qui s’en prendrait à mon corps et à mon âme, contre les incantations des faux prophètes, contre les lois noires du paganisme, contre les lois fausses de l’hérésie, contre les tromperies de l’idolâtrie, contre les sorts des femmes, des forgerons et des druides1, contre toute science qui enchaîne l’âme de l’homme.
Ô Christ, protège-moi aujourd’hui de tout poison, des brûlures, de la noyade, d’une blessure mortelle, afin que je puisse recevoir une abondante récompense.

Del Señor y Dador de Vida alcánzame un amor grande a la existencia, ¡oh Madre Santa!
Madre de Dios, intercede ante el Padre para sanar las heridas que se hayan producido durante mi gestación. Sana en mí toda inseguridad, zozobra, miedo o rechazo a una vida extrauterina que pude presentir como dolorosa. Líbrame, Madre santa, de todo espíritu de muerte e influencias malignas que buscaron que fuese una persona pesimista, negativa, apagada o enfermiza.
Señor Jesús, te alabo, te bendigo y te proclamo como mi único Dios y rechazo toda forma de idolatría. Líbrame, Señor, de toda contaminación maléfica si es que, en mi gestación o en mi infancia, los míos tuvieron algún contacto con la brujería, ya fuese porque mi padres acudieron a adivinos o curanderos, o bien porque alguien le hubiera hecho algún maleficio. Madre de la Vida intercede ante tu Hijo para librarme de toda mediumnidad, si en mi vida hubiera alguna conexión con los muertos por causa de anteriores embarazos de mi madre malogrados o sucesos relacionados con la muerte o brujería.
Por la frialdad de mi padre y de mi madre he sufrido, no me dieron el amor y la seguridad que debieran, he padecido carencias de afecto o de caricias tranquilizadoras, ¡oh Señor!, envía tu Espíritu de Amor y haz que tu Madre María me envuelva en sus brazos, me arrulle y me llene de su ternura. Que Ella me acoja tal como soy, con mis debilidades de niña pequeña, y que Jesús venga a besarme, a bendecirme y a imponerme las manos como hizo durante su vida terrena (cf. Mc 10, 13-16). De todo corazón, Señor, perdono a mis padres las heridas que sus actos, palabras y obras han podido provocar en mí. Y te doy gracias, Señor, por haberme dado la seguridad de que tú me has acogido (Sal 27, 10) y nunca me has olvidado (Is 49, 15), cuando mi padre y mi madre me abandonadaron.
Sana las heridas de los combates que me han traumatizado o que han provocado que me encierre en mí misma, levantando barreras frente a los demás. Sáname de las heridas profundas, reprimidas, que han endurecido mi corazón: las envidias hacia quienes eran preferidos a mí en la familia o en el colegio, las rebeldías, las humillaciones, las injusticias, la soledad, la amargura de ser marginada, las burlas, los insultos o las calumnias.
Señor Dios omnipotente, libérame de la carga de toda maldición familiar, ancestral o maléfica que pueda esconderse en mis fracasos, enfermedades o frustraciones. Dame una confianza y un valor renovados, para hacer frente a las pruebas de este mundo. Sé que tu amor me sostendrá en los tropiezos y las caídas.
✠ Señor Jesús, dame la gracia de perdonar a aquellos que no me han amado, de liberarlos de toda deuda hacia mí. Sáname de todos los traumas de mi infancia, de los trastornos de la sexualidad, de la inquietud angustiosa, la vergüenza y la culpabilidad. Lava todas las manchas de mi cuerpo y de mi alma y sana las heridas causadas por quienes abusaron de mí, al violar mi integridad física.
✠ Señor Jesús, haz que el Espíritu Santo me colme de amor, me haga dichosa y libre clamando ¡Abbá, papá!, con todo mi ser. Si me he sentido sola, abandonada y rechazada por los míos o por aquellos con los que contaba, por tu amor sanador dame un sentido nuevo de mi dignidad y una sabia estima de mí misma (c.f. Rom 11, 13). Sé tú mi consuelo allí donde he sentido el desamor de otros.
Señor mío y Dios mío, TE RUEGO también que sanes las heridas de mi afectividad que están ligadas a experiencias amorosas imposibles que, por cualquier causa, no podían tener buen fin. Haz que te entregue mis aspiraciones y mis fracasos y que en Tus Manos ponga mis relaciones con los demás. Enséñame a abandonarme de corazón en tu Amor, porque sólo Tú colmas mi deseo de amar y de ser amado.
✠Gracias, Señor, por haberme acompañado durante mi infancia y mi adolescencia, por tu Amor, por tu Luz, por tu Verdad. Perdóname si he llegado a pensar que Tú no me querías o que no estabas presente en mis sufrimientos. Perdona también mi desesperación y desganas de vivir. Sana mis sentimientos de culpabilidad ante Ti pero que no brotan del amor sino del miedo al castigo de perder tu amor y protección. Y perdona mi falta de fe en tu Providencia al ver que permitías o tolerabas que me abandonaran y me engañaran las personas a las que yo más quería.
Perdóname las experiencias destructivas y amores abusivos a los que me he entregado en búsqueda de soluciones a mis propios problemas. Gracias por haberme librado de todas ellas y de haber me liberado del maligno cada vez. Invoco tu Preciosa Sangre derramada en la Cruz por mí, para ser perdonada y limpiada de mis pecados. ¡Señor Jesús, que tus Santas Llagas sean el refugio para mi sanación!

8 Cada uno de los cuatro Seres Vivientes tiene seis alas llenas de ojos alrededor y por dentro, y no cesan de repetir día y noche: Santo, santo, santo, es el Señor Dios, el Todopoderoso, Aquel que era, que es y que viene.
9 Cada vez que los Seres Vivientes dan gloria, honor y acción de gracias al que está sentado en el trono y que vive por los siglos de los siglos,
10 los veinticuatro ancianos se arrodillan ante el que está sentado en el trono, adoran al que vive por los siglos de los siglos y arrojan sus coronas delante del trono diciendo:
11 Vuelvan a ti, Señor y Dios nuestro, la gloria, el honor y el poder, pues tú lo mereces. Tú creaste todas las cosas, y por tu voluntad existen y fueron creadas.
Capitulo 5
6 Entonces vi esto: entre el trono con sus cuatro Seres Vivientes y los veinticuatro ancianos un Cordero estaba de pie, a pesar de haber sido sacrificado. Tenía siete cuernos y siete ojos, que son los siete espíritus de Dios enviados a toda la tierra.
7 El Cordero se adelantó y tomó el libro de la mano derecha del que está sentado en el trono.
8 Cuando lo tomó, los cuatro Seres Vivientes se postraron ante el Cordero. Lo mismo hicieron los veinticuatro ancianos que tenían en sus manos arpas y copas de oro llenas de perfumes, que son las oraciones de los santos.
9 Y cantaban este cántico nuevo: Eres digno de tomar el libro y de abrir sus sellos, porque fuiste degollado y con tu sangre compraste para Dios hombres de toda raza, lengua, pueblo y nación.

Here we see that “the Kingdom is not a thing, it is not a geographical dominion like worldly kingdoms. It is a person; it is he. On this interpretation, the term ‘Kingdom of God’ is itself a veiled Christology. By the way in which he speaks of the Kingdom of God, Jesus leads men to realize the overwhelming fact that in him God himself is present among them, that he is God’s presence.” (Pope Benedict, Jesus of Nazareth, Part 1)
The Idealistic/Mystical Dimension
Here we see that The Kingdom of God resides in the heart of man. Church Father, Origen wrote, “those who pray for the coming of the Kingdom of God pray without any doubt for the Kingdom of God that they contain in themselves, and they pray that this kingdom might bear fruit and attain its fullness.”
The Ecclesiastical Dimension
Here we see that the kingdom of God is in the here and now, present in and through the Church. Yet it is a mixed reality that will only be perfectly realized at the end of history. This current “mixed” state can be seen as the Church on earth which now grows in the field of the world with both weeds and wheat until the harvest when Christ says he will “tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned. Kingdom of God
Signifies not so much the actual kingdom as the sway of the king
In the second petition of the “Our Father”—”Thy kingdom come”—we are taught to pray as well for grace as for glory. As men grew to understand the Divinity of Christ they grew to see that the kingdom of God was also that of Christ—it was here that the faith of the good thief excelled: “Lord, remember me when thou shalt come into thy kingdom.” So, too, as men realized that this kingdom stood for a certain tone of mind, and saw that this peculiar spirit was enshrined in the Church, they began to speak of the Church as “the kingdom of God“; cf. Col., i, 13; I Thess., ii, 12; Apoc., i, 6, 9; v, 10, etc. The kingdom was regarded as Christ’s, and He presents it to the Father; cf. I Cor., xv, 23-28; II Tim., iv, 1. The kingdom of God means, then, the ruling of God in our hearts; it means those principles which separate us off from the kingdom of the world and the devil; it means the benign sway of grace; it means the Church as that Divine institution whereby we may make sure of attaining the spirit of Christ and so win that ultimate kingdom of God where He reigns without end in “the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God” (Apoc., xxi, 2).

What did Christ mean when he said, “The kingdom of heaven is within you?”
Answer:
The words of Jesus you cite, “The kingdom of God is within you,” is from Luke 17:21 and was delivered to the Pharisees. A better translation is provided in the RSV Catholic Second Edition:
Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was coming, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, ‘Lo, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”
Given that the question came from the Pharisees who largely opposed him, it’s difficult to think that Jesus meant the Pharisees had embraced the kingdom of heaven. Even his closest disciples, including the apostles, had not yet been baptized, by which they and all Christians become “temples of the Holy Spirit” (1 Cor. 6:9), i.e., in which God and the power of his kingdom dwells with us.
Given the time frame in which Jesus spoke his words, “the kingdom of God is in the midst of you” refers to his being the King and that he was in their midst advancing his kingdom through his teaching, including the Sermon on the Mount, and the signs and wonders that also illustrated what his kingdom would be like. So Jesus was teaching the Pharisees and others that the kingdom was available to them, within their reach, if only they became his disciples. It’s an implicit reference to their made in the image and likeness of God (Gen. 1:26-27), and that they thereby had the God-given ability to cooperate with God’s grace to make the kingdom of God a reality.

On August 5, the liturgical memorial of Our Lady of the Snows, the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy celebrates its patronal feast, honoring its Patroness – the Mother of Mercy Incarnate. On this day, the election of Mary as the heavenly Superior General of the Congregation has been traditionally renewed since in 1937, in the form of a special, ceremonial prayer. Saint Faustina wrote in her Diary: I saw the Virgin Mary and She said to me, Oh, how very pleased I am with the homage of your love! And at that moment She covered all the sisters of the Congregation with Her mantle. With Her right hand, She clasped Mother General Michael to herself, and with Her left hand she did the so to me, while all the sisters were at Her feet, covered with Her mantle. Then the Mother of God said hen the Mother of God said, Everyone who perseveres zealously till death in My Congregation will be spared the fire of purgatory (Diary, 1244). This day is the anniversary of the dedication of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the oldest church in the West dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Pope Sixtus III, to celebrate the end of the stormy Council of Ephesus (431 AD), which declared the dogma of the divine motherhood of Mary (Theotokos), introduced the feast of the Mother of the Son of God, which was first celebrated in this particular basilica, and with time, successive Popes expanded it to the whole Church. Today, the liturgical calendar of the Church contains the memorial of Our Lady of the Snows, commemorating the miracle associated with the rise of the basilica, and this name is functioning in the minds of the faithful. Therefore, the first circumstance of the establishment of the feast of Mary as Mother of the Son of God – Mercy Incarnate, has been forgotten. Saint Mary Major: When the Virgin Made It Snow in the Middle of August

The “miracle of the snow”—the rare summer snowfall which, according to legend, fell Aug. 5, 352, on the Esquiline Hill, one of the famed “Seven Hills” of Rome.
The Catholic Encyclopedia tells the story of the basilica’s origins:
During the pontificate of Liberius, the Roman patrician John and his wife, who were without heirs, made a vow to donate their possessions to the Virgin Mary. They prayed that she might make known to them how they were to dispose of their property in her honour. On Aug. 5, at the height of the Roman summer, snow fell during the night on the summit of the Esquiline Hill. In obedience to a vision of the Virgin Mary which they had the same night, the couple built a basilica in honour of Mary on the very spot which was covered with snow.

Cette invocation mariale est très présente dans l’Église catholique depuis 1917. Tant dans la prière du Rosaire, comme lieu de pèlerinage, que dans la ferveur des fidèles et des papes. Le 13 mai, nous célébrons Notre-Dame de Fatima, en commémoration de sa première apparition à Cova da Iria, au Portugal.
Acompañada de su hermana y de una amiga, Bernardita se dirige a la Gruta de Massabielle cerca de Lourdes, al borde del río Gave, para recoger leña. Mientras se está descalzando para cruzar el arroyo, oye un ruido como de viento, levanta la cabeza hacia la Gruta:
«Vi a une señora vestida de blanco: llevaba un vestido blanco, un velo también de color blanco, un cinturón azul y una rosa amarilla en cada pie.» Bernadette intenta hacer la señal de la cruz pero no lo consigue. Cuando la Virgen hace la señal de la cruz, también ella lo consigue y reza el rosario con la Señora. La aparición dura hasta el final del Rosario.
Segunda aparición domingo 14 febrero de 1858
Tres días después de la primera aparición Bernardita siente una fuerza interior que la empuja a volver a la Gruta a pesar de la prohibición de sus padres. Debido a su insistencia, su madre le da permiso para volver.
Bernardita se dirigió a la gruta, acompañada de su hermana y otras niñas. El grupo juvenil comenzó por entrar en la Iglesia para orar un instante y llenar de agua bendita un frasquito que llevaban preparado. Llegando a la Gruta rezan el rosario. De repente, el rostro de Bernadette aparece transfigurado, su mirada se ilumina: veía a la misma Señora.
Bernardita, recibiendo de una de sus amigas, el agua bendita, roció a la Aparición, diciendo: «Si venís de parte de Dios, acercaos». A estas palabras, la Virgen se inclina varias veces y se adelanta casi hasta el borde de la roca, pareciendo que se sonreía.
Concluido el rosario, la visión desapareció.
Tercera aparición: jueves 18 de febrero de 1858.
Después de oír la Santa Misa el día 18 de febrero a las seis de la mañana, Bernardita se dirigía a la Gruta con una señora y una joven de Lourdes. Al poco tiempo ve una luz clarísima que iluminaba el hueco de la peña, y al momento ve también la celestial Visión. Las dos mujeres se arrodillaron y dieron a Santa Bernardita un papel, tinta y pluma que ella presentó a la Aparición, diciéndole: «Señora mía, si tenéis algo que comunicarme, quisiera que tuvieseis la bondad de escribir en este papel quién sois y qué deseáis.» La Virgen sonrió al oír tan sencilla petición y entreabriendo sus labios dijo: «Lo que tengo que deciros no es necesario escribirlo. Hacedme únicamente el favor de venir aquí durante quince días.» Os lo prometo, respondió Bernardita. «Y yo a mi vez prometo hacerte feliz, respondió la Virgen, no en este mundo, sino en el otro».
Cuarta aparición: Viernes 19 de febrereo de 1858.
Bernardita llega a la Gruta, esta vez acompañada de su madre, su madrina y más seis personas. Lleva en su mano una vela bendecida y encendida. De aquel gesto nacerá la costumbre de llevar velas para encenderlas ante la Gruta.
Quinta aparición: sábado 20 de febrero de 1858.
Durante esta aparición la Señora le dió una oración secreta a Bernadette (solo para ella), que le enseñó palabra por palabra para rezar todos los días de su vida.
Sexta aparición: domingo 21 de febrero 1858.
Por la mañana temprano la Señora se presenta a Bernardita, a la que por primera vez acompaña una pequeña multitud. Después es interrogada por el comisario de policía Jacomet, que quiere que diga lo que ha visto. Bernardita no habla más que de «Aquero» (aquello).
Séptima aparición: martes 23 de febrero de 1858
Rodeada por unas ciento cincuenta personas, Bernardita se dirige hacia la Gruta. Entre el público hay varios notables como el médico Dozous, el abogado Dufo, el capitán Duplessis entre otros.
La Aparición le comunica tres secretos «sólo para ella», pues sólo a ella concierne.
Octava aparición: miercoles 24 de febrero de 1858
Unas 300 personas están presente en la grupa cuando llega Bernadette. En pocos minutos entra en éxtasis. En su rostro la alegría y la tristeza se alternan rápidamente. Mensaje de la Señora: “¡Penitencia! ¡Penitencia! ¡Penitencia! ¡Rece a Dios por los pecadores!”
Novena aparición: jueves 25 de febrero de 1858
La Señora dice a Bernadita: «Vaya a beber y lavarse en la fuente». Pero en la Gruta no había fuente…
Bernardita cuenta: «No encontré más que un poco de agua fangosa. Al cuarto intento, conseguí beber; me mandó también que comiera hierba que había cerca de la fuente, luego la visión desapareció y me marché.»
La muchedumbre le comenta: «¿Sabes que la gente cree que estás loca por hacer tales cosas?».
Bernardita sólo contesta. «Es por los pecadores.»
Esta es la aparición en que comienza a brotar la fuente del famoso agua de Lourdes.
Décima aparición: 27 de febrero de 1858
Hay allí ese día ochocientas personas. Algunas llegaron a las 2 de la madrugada para conseguir un lugar. Santa Bernardette llega a las 7 de la mañana. La Aparición permanece silenciosa. Bernardette bebe agua del manantial y hace los gestos habituales de penitencia arrodillándose y besando el suelo.
Undécima aparición: domingo 28 de febrero de 1858
Más de mil personas asisten al éxtasis. Bernardita reza, besa la tierra y se arrastra de rodillas en señal de penitencia. A continuación se la llevan a casa del juez Ribes que la amenaza con meterla en la cárcel.
Duodécima aparición: lunes 1 de marzo de 1858
Se han congregado más de mil quinientas personas y entre ellas la madre de Bernadette y, por primera vez, también su padre.
Esta es además la única vez que está presente un sacerdote: el P. Antoine Dézirat. Durante la noche, Catalina Latapie, una amiga de Lourdes, acude a la Gruta, moja su brazo dislocado en el agua del manantial y el brazo y la mano recuperan su agilidad: fue uno de los primeros milagros de Lourdes.
Decimotercera aparición: martes 2 de marzo 1858
La muchedumbre aumenta cada vez más. Durante la aparición Bernadette hace las penitencias habituales de besar el suelo y beber el agua. La Señora le encarga: «Vaya a decir a los sacerdotes que se construya aquí una capilla y que se venga en procesión.» Bernardita se lo hace saber a D. Peyramale, párroco de Lourdes. Éste tan sólo quiere saber una cosa: el nombre de la Señora.
Decimocuarta aparición: miércoles 3 de marzo de 1858
A las siete de la mañana, cuando ya hay allí tres mil personas, Bernardita se encamina hacia la Gruta; pero ¡la Visión no aparece! Por la tarde siente la llamada interior de la Señora; acude a la Gruta y vuelve a preguntarle su nombre. La respuesta es una sonrisa.
Decimoquinta aparición: jueves 4 marzo 1858
Ocho mil personas están presentes, esperando un milagro al finalizar los catorce días de visitas a la Gruta que la Señora había pedido a Bernadette. La visión permanece silenciosa. Bernadette reza su rosario y al terminar la aparición vuelve a casa.
Decimosexta aparición: jueves 25 de marzo 1858
Después de tres semanas sin ir a la Gruta, el 25 de marzo, día de la Anunciación, Bernardita fue atraída a la Gruta de madrugada. Sigue con la misma inquietud: cuál es el nombre de la Señora, requerido por el párroco. Cuando ve a la Señora, Bernardita lo intenta pedir con la fórmula ceremonial que había preparado durante mucho tiempo:
«Señorita, ¿sería tan amable de decirme quién es, por favor?» pero hasta tres veces se equivoca. Cuando intentó hacer la pregunta por cuarta vez la Señora levantó los ojos al cielo, uniendo las manos, que estaban extendidas y abiertas hacia la tierra, en señal de oración, y dijo: «Yo soy la Inmaculada Concepción».
Decimoséptima aparición: miércoles 7 de abril de 1858
Cuando Bernadette llegó a la Gruta ya hay muchas personas reunidas ahí. Habían escuchado el día anterior que Bernadette había sentido la llamada interior para ir a la Gruta.
Durante esta aparición, Bernardita sostiene una vela encendida. La llama rodea su mano durante mucho tiempo sin quemarla. Estaba presente el doctor Douzous que impresionado tomó nota de este hecho inexplicable.
Decimoctava y última aparición: viernes 16 de julio de 1858
Bernardita siente interiormente el misterioso llamamiento de la Virgen y se dirige a la Gruta; pero no consigue llegar porque, por causa de los muchos devotos que acudían de todas partes, el acceso a la Gruta estaba prohibido y la Gruta vallada. Bernadette se dirige, pues, al otro lado del río Gave, enfrente de la Gruta. «Me parecía que estaba delante de la Gruta, a la misma distancia que las otras veces, no veía más que a la Virgen. Jamás la había visto tan bella.»

Three great apparitions of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary focus on the message for the attention of all men, that was delivered therein. They took place between the end of December 1673 and June 1675. One can identify three great dimensions of this message : a declaration of love (I), a complaint (II), a demand (III).
